Europe 2015: San Sebastián, Spain

San Sebastián is absolutely charming, delicious and perfect.  It has a little bit of everything: amazing food (Michelin stars and pintxos galore!), design and architecture, beaches (including surf!), culture and beautiful scenery all in one place.  Its easy to see how people (and their bellies) fall in love with this city and keep coming back.  The locals were so warm and friendly, especially with Bash, and we had beyond a wonderful and memorable time!

The food in this town is no joke.  San Sebastián is home to one the most Michelin-starred restaurant lists in the world.  As if that wasn't enough, it's pintxo (tapas) culture is almost unmatched anywhere else in Spain.  Needless to say, we had to bust out the elastic waist pants by the end of the week.  We literally ate a little bit of everything - from white cloth tables to street side eats ... and OMG was it good!
Bar Zeruko was easily one of our favorite pintxo bars

bread here is soooooo good!
There's so much to see and do within the city itself too (when you're not eating).  We spent a day checking out Mount Igeldo where we could see gorgeous panoramic views of La Playa de Concha  down below.  We rode a funicular railway up the mountain and hung out at an old skool (and slightly tacky) amusement park at the top but it was still fun.

We took a day trip to Getaria, a harborside village known for its seafood and home to Cristobal Balenciaga! (his museum was definitely something I starred for an inspiration-fill).  Only 15 miles away from San Sebastian, Getaria is also known for its local txakoli white wine and famous grilled fish.  We scored a reservation at Elkano, supposedly one of the best places to eat and thoroughly enjoyed both!
see?! he DOES smile!  (sometimes)

We peppered in a little bit of beach strolling, architecture and city sites in between all of the gastro exploring and hope to come back to this adorable delicious town again soon!  Video highlights are at the end.  Next up: Lyon!  :)
